Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery
Plan - Simulation, Live Event, Recovery
Why do you need to plan for disaster recovery?
These numbers will tell you why you need DR:
25% of data breaches in 2019 were caused by accidentally deleting or overwriting files or folders.
51% of data breaches in 2019 were caused by criminal and malicious attacks.
70% of organisations are likely to suffer business disruption by 2022 due to unrecoverable data loss.
93% of businesses experienced attacks within the past three years.
A core set of plans you can build your BC/DR on
Our BC/DR plans will set you up with a base set of functionality enabling you to properly manage your BC / DR function.

Get Disaster Recovery procedures in place
Register for our service and within the application you can subscribe to our set of Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery plan templates.
These enable you to create any number of plans for any number of locations and servers.
It is essential that Disaster Recovery plans are run as simulations on a quarterly basis asper ISO27001. This ensures the recoverability of your IT services and proves the actual RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery time objective.
Simple and easy to use
You can use and execute the plans immediately upon subscription.
The plans can be run in simulation mode for practice and refinement, changes can be made to our base plans to suit your environment.
Plans can be executed via an API call or by activating them manually.
After every plan execution, you have access to a full, detailed, comprehensive plan execution report.
You user champion for Disaster Recovery can sign off completed simulations and activations with comments. This would form a part of board reporting at appropriate level.

Further benefits
Simulate, Activate, Recover
- Simulate - activate a simulation to test all aspects of your plans.
- Live disaster event - activate an actual disaster plan to recover servers.
- Recover to Live environment - activate the plans to enable a return to original infra-structure.
Broadcast & Response
Build in broadcast features to communicate to all users via text/ sms or email messages, get form based responses as part of your BC / DR plan execution actions.
Plan action users
Nominate a plan manager and a different action owner for each action. This enables truly distributed task allocation enabling experts to work on sections of the plan that are relevant to them.
Obtain Sign off
All plans can be set to require senior executive sign off after execution, be it a simulation or a live event. This is ideal for BC / DR where the users of the service can sign off simulation exercises.
Multiple business units
Subscribe to our Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery plan pack and you can use it across multiple business units or locations.
Note!
Our Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery plan pack is copyrighted to Plan4Continuity - You may use and amend this plan as long as you are a subscriber to the service. You do not have permission to use this, copy it, distribute it or sell it outside of the Plan4Continuity service.
Key stages of Disaster Recovery

Simulation of a Disaster Recovery
A simulation of an IT disaster should be run very 3 months. This can be a table top exercise or an actual simulation.
The simulation enables you to refine and improve your procedures as well as pick up any changes that have been made to the IT environment that affect recovery (this is the greatest cause of inability to recover).
The simulation also provides an accurate estimate of your RPO and RTO. These are critical elements determining to which data checkpoint you have had to roll back to as well as the time to execute the recovery.
The simulation plan also has steps to de-commission the simulation as a final set of tasks.
Live Event Disaster Recovery
A live event disaster recovery can be smooth if simulations have been done on an ongoing basis.
Restoring IT services in a DR location is complicated by the networking requirements to get all staff able to connect to the new servers, therefore network recovery needs to be built into the plan.
Once the servers and network have been recovered, it is critical to instate a comprehensive server backup of the recovered servers to ensure a further disaster on the recovered servers can be managed.
All the required steps are outlined in our template plan which can.

Recovery back to Original infra-structure
The recovery back to the original infra-structure after a disaster event is a critical event that needs careful management.
Once servers and and networks are back in place the point of user cutover is critical to ensure zero data loss or double capture.
All of the stages above are covered by our plans, each plan execution retains a full history of all events and timings that took place - this provides an auditable result which is essential for analysis and remediation of issues.
